 Summer Student 2017
 30 hours a week
 
 Start date July 4th, 2017.

 End date August 31th, 2017.

  

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, creative, a team player and of course someone who loves libraries!
 
Responsibilities include:
 To help create, promote and implement literacy related programming for various ages
 To catalogue new library materials
 To assist in library operations
 To help patrons find materials and assist with the checking in and checking out of library materials
 To assist with the shipping and receiving of library materials
 
 The successful candidate must commit to the hours 30 hours a week, had been full time student last year and returning to full time studies.

COW Bus

Have you herd about the COW Bus coming to the Irricana & District Municipal Library?

 
Irricana, Alberta, May, 2017- The COW Bus (Classroom on Wheels) is coming to the Irricana Lions Community Hall, 300 – 1st St.  on May 31st, 2017. The COW Bus is a free program for families with young children, provides families with ideas to support early learning at home and offers activities to develop reading and writing skills. The program will be coming to Irricana on May 31st from 10:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. The program will run in Irricana from 10:00a.m until 4:00p.m. The library and partners will run children programs from 10am till 1pm and trained literacy facilitators will be joining us from 1pm till 4pm.This program is put on by the Centre for Family Literacy, Rocky View School Community Learning and the Irricana & Rural Municipal Library and run by library staff and many wonderful volunteers.
The C.O.W. Bus is a program for parents and young children (ages 0 – 6) to learn new ways to integrate literacy activities into their daily lives.  There will be trained literacy facilitators providing information on the importance of early language development, recognizing the family as the child’s first and most influential teacher.  Additional fun and educational activities supporting literacy, learning and families will be hosted during the day at the hall.
“We are so excited to be able to provide this sort of service to the people of our community and we hope that all families who are able to attend on the Wednesday will take time in their day to come to the hall to enjoy and learn from the COW Bus. At the same time, within the hall there will be also  lots of great activities for kids and families such as:  indoor explorers, story time, craft activities and much more!” Papari Borthakur, Library Manager, commented
“As part of the day’s events, there will be a donation of a “Legacy Library” of quality children’s books to the community of Irricana”. Said Borthakur
The Irricana & Rural Municipal Library hopes that the community will come out and support this fun and educational event in our community. We are  very lucky to have the support of the Town of Irricana, Rocky View School Community Learning, Community Links and Centre for Family Literacy to ensure programs like this are available free of cost to residents.

Responsibilities:
 
This position will oversee the management, strategic planning and daily operation of the Library and report to the Irricana and Rural Library Board.   As the Library Manager you must be able to advocate and promote the Library in a positive and innovative manner within the community and outlining areas. You are responsible for building, maintaining and foster positive relationships with strategic partners and community coalitions.
 
Qualifications:
 
·         Must have previous management experience
·         Proven ability to work cooperatively under the direction of Library Board with demonstrated flexibility and open communication with Board, staff and volunteers
·         Strong leadership and team building abilities
·         Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills
·         Proven capabilities in Administrative, Human Resources and Office Management
·         Previous experience in Library Services, acquisitions, collection management and patron services will be considered an asset
·         Proficient in a variety of social media platforms
·         Must be able to work for the full one year term
·         Ability to work some evening and weekends
·         Must have a board approved acceptable vulnerable sector check

Festival of Trees Invitation

The Irricana & Rural Municipal Library is hosting a Festival of Trees event in conjunction with our towns Christmas on Main celebration on December 2nd.
 
The Festival of Trees event is to be a fundraiser for the library as we are looking for companies to donate decorated trees that will be displayed in our library and then silent auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Irricana Library.
 
We were hoping that your company or organization would be interested in donating a tree to our fundraising event, this is a great opportunity to advertise your business to the community as every tree sponsor will be able to put up signage at their tree. I have attached a letter that gives more description about the event.

Computer Safety Course for Seniors

Together with Rocky View School Community Learning, the Irricana Library is bring a 5 week course designed for seniors about how to navigate the Internet safely. This is a free course that runs for 5 weeks starting September 27th and runs until October 25th. The program is an hour and a half long 11am-12:30pm. Registration is required. No membership is required to participate in library programs. There is no cost associated with  library programs. Registration is not required but is strongly encouraged unless otherwise noted!

Keep kids reading all summer! With this fun program not only are you rewarded for reading but you get to participate in lots of fun crafts and activities throughout July and August. Registration Required.
